Implementation and Evaluation of a Parallel Distributed File System for the EXTOLL High-Performance Network

Current High Performance Computing applications can use terabytes of data. This data is managed in HPC cluster computers via distributed file systems. The Extoll network interconnect developed by the Computer Architecture Group is aimed at HPC cluster computers, but does not support any distributed file system directly.

This thesis aims to close that gap by enabling Lustre, the most deployed distributed file system, to use Extoll directly. It describes how Lustre networking operates, and how Lustre can utilize Extoll. The result is then tested and benchmarked. Future development and applications of Extoll and Lustre are explored at the end.
